Located a few kilometers from Papeete, the home of James Norman Hall displays the daily environment of this first world war hero, adventurer, poet, essayist and writer of the American contemporary literature. He worked in Tahiti for over 30 years and lived in the recently built spacious green colonial home with his Tahitian wife Sarah Hall and their two children.
Most successful and famous for the Bounty trilogy, "Mutiny on the Bounty", "Men against the Sea" and "Pitcairn's Island", written and co-authored with fellow American Charles Nordhoff -a writing partnership which lasted for over 29 years.
For the man who loved to read and listen to classical music, his beloved office library contains with his original writing desk and typewriter, over 3000 books containing seven generations of American literature. His precious gramophone, other antique wooden furniture, nostalgic family photos, favorite paintings and personal effects decorate the charming house from the romantic days.
Visitors may walk around Mama Lala's magnificent garden or relax under the terraced mango tree enjoying fresh beverages and local meals from the family kitchen, now a coffee and tea room.
