Aeral ViewClose to Opunohu Bay on the northeast coast of the island, sheltered from the prevailing winds, the InterContinental Resort and Spa Moorea is located voluptuously between the mountains and lagoon.
Situated in the heart of a verdant setting of 11 hectares (27 acres), these magnificent gardens contain 165 different species of trees, plants and flowers.
Confided to the talented hands of French architect Pierre-Jean Picart, who loves Polynesia, the hotel underwent a big renovation project that was finished in September 2002, with very pleasing results.

Aerial view of overwater bungalowsThe 17 Garden Suite Bungalows, the 50 Overwater and 28 Beach Suite Bungalows (also called "fare"), as well as the 48 Garden View Rooms, were all decorated with a concern of combining a respect for the local traditions with non-conspicuous contemporary luxury. Noble woods and natural materials were elegantly used in the decor. These include parquet or bamboo, Méranti of Indonesia partitions, mahogany and wicker furniture and natural coloured wall coverings. The furniture of distinguished and original lines, as well as objects made from Tahitian arts and crafts, (paintings, tapas...) compose a refined and harmonious ensemble and reinforce the Polynesian identity of this dream hotel. The only impediment to tradition (for the comfort of our guests), are the "fare" and rooms are all provided with a very modern air-conditioning system.

Moorea Dolphin Center (CLICK on image to enlarge)Besides the classic island excursions and a wide choice of nautical and sports activities, the hotel also offers more original activities such as the “Moorea Dolphin Center”, an incredible aquatic park where guests can swim and play with the dolphins.

There is also "Hélène’Spa", a centre of well-being that was the first Tahitian spa in Polynesia, and suggests a range of care treatments in small gorgeous “Fare” that are generously open to the surrounding nature.
Everything here was conceived to transform your vacation into an album of unforgettable souvenirs for lovers and families.

Hélène SPA
Tucked away in a discreet corner of the resort is this magical spa, created by Hélène Sillinger, it has been rated one of the world's best by prestigious magazines such as Marie-Claire, Elle, Figaro Magazine and Great Spa Escapes. Here are some extracts of several magazines:

«… A divine spa… one of the seven paradises of beauty in the world …» (ELLE magazine)
«…
A fabulous spa
…» (MARIE CLAIRE magazine)
« …
One of the most beautiful spas in the world
» (LE MONDE)
 «…
The sixth most marvellous spa in the world
…» (GREAT SPA ESCAPES)
«…
The most beautiful spa in Polynesia
…» (LOBBY PALACES magazine)
« …
The top ten dream spas in the world
» (SUNDAY MIRROR)
« ...
Most probably the legend of heaven on earth is true and I found it right here in the heart of the Pacific... »
(From Jo FOLEY (LE GUIDE des MEILLEURS SPAS AU MONDE).

It was the brainchild of Hélène who escaped from Paris to immerse herself in the ancestral traditions of Polynesia and create a spa-with-a-difference in the calming ambience of pandanus thatched bungalows, set among the trees and flowers of our gardens.

Hélène insists that her frangipani, hibiscus, jasmine and bougainvillea flowers for the fresh bath are picked daily. Tropical fruits are crushed and grated for each treatment to keep their potency. Only the fresh coconut oil is used and pure spring water is captured from the volcanic heights.

Treatments and care include:

  • Natural and tropical massage
  • Foot and hand massage (reflexology)
  • Flower baths
  • Rainshower
  • Facials and body scrubs and wraps with fresh island plants and fruits

Moorea Dolphin Center (CLICK on image to enlarge)MOOREA DOLPHIN CENTER
An Unforgettable Experience!

Part of the lagoon in our Moorea Resort's grounds is the home of the Moorea Dolphin Center (former Dolphin Quest). Here we have created a huge natural home for four bottlenose dolphins brought from a similar facility in Hawaii or "retired" from the US Navy in San Diego.

They are lovingly cared for by a scientific and veterinary team and are the stars of a fascinating interactive and educational program. You can learn all about these frolicsome creatures, watch them, feed them, swim and play with them in the comfort of small groups. It's guaranteed to be a moving experience!

JAMES SAMUELA's MOOREA TATTOO

Located on the beach side of the hotel, James Samuela’s Moorea Tattoo will let you discover the ancestral Polynesian tattoo style ans way of thinking.
James Samuela has been tattooing professionally since 1998. In addition to Moorea, James has tattooed in France, Spain, Switzerland and the United States. Perhaps it's only natural James ended up tattooing, as he is the direct descendant of some of the first tattoo artists in the Marquesas.

James has studied extensively the ancient tattoos of his Marquesan ancestors. This combined with his studies of 5-years at L'Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris, gives him a broad and unique background in the arts. Also a painter and sculptor, James has a strong understanding of proportion and symbolism.
Today, James is the only tattoo artist in French Polynesia based at a luxury 5-star hotel. Even if you aren't sure about getting a tattoo while you are in Tahiti, you are welcome to stop by his studio for a visit. James is always happy to answer your questions and exchange ideas.
You can already check some examples of his art.

The Moorea Tattoo is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm - Wednesday to Saturday. However James is also available by appointment on Mondays and Tuesdays.
