JANUARY

Tahiti: "Tere Fa'ati"
A traditional public transportation outing by "le truck" around the island of Tahiti with stops for swimming, relaxing and discovering various tourist attractions along the way, as well as musical atmosphere and dance shows.  Upon arrival on the peninsula a Tahitian meal is offered to the happy travelers.  Also, the King and Queen of the Tere Fa'ati will be selected from amongst the group.

Rurutu (Austral Islands): "Tere Aati"

Cultural and historical event on Rurutu in the Austral Islands featuring a long walk through ancestral sites (marae, cliffs, etc.) to the three villages (Moerai, Avera and Auti) and a visit to various homes where guests receive this island's traditional greeting, a shower of thrown talcum powder.

Moorea: Moorea Marathon, 22nd edition
February 13, 2010

Tahiti: Chinese New Year
February 14, 2010
The Chinese community of Tahiti celebrates the New Year on the date given by the Chinese horoscope for that particular year. This year  is the Year of the Tiger. The program of festivities begin with the official opening ceremony at the Kanti temple of Mamao and is followed by several events including the parade of the lion through all the neighboring shops and finishes with a ball at the Chinese Philanthropic hall.  A cultural day is also organized to discover the magic of Chinese folk culture; song, dance, martial arts and culinary arts. 

Tahiti: Tahiti Festival Guitare
February 26-27, 2010
Event held at the hotel Le Meridien Tahiti in Punaauia.  Artists and well known local musicians as well as the finalists for the 2010 Tahiti Hopes Guitar "The Duets" will perform during these two nights.

Excursion around the island of Moorea in a festive atmosphere that includes the sounds of the ukulele.

Tahiti: Tahiti & Her Islands Tourism Fair Tere Ai'a, 3rd Edition

To be held at To'ata Square in Papeete.
The objective of this tradeshow is to promote and develop the tourism industry within each and every one of the five archipelagos.  The participating exhibitors will present their products and special offers from various tourism sectors.

The 3rd Tahitian Dance Academy "Ori Tahiti Training Course" is organized by  the "Conservatoire artistique de la Polynésie-Française", controlled by the Ministry of Culture of French Polynesia .
Their goal is to pass on the art of the Tahitian traditional dance, which is an integral part of the Tahitian culture while  introduce their culture to the future generations as well as all the amateurs willing to learn about the Tahitian spirit. At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate indicating your participation and your acquired dance level.
The Tahitian dancing "Training Course" will allow beginners and experienced participants to increase their dance level at every stage of the course. You will not only be initiated to the "Ori Tahiti", you will also learn the meaning of the Polynesian songs as well as the different rhythms created with the Polynesian instruments. (The "Ori Tahiti Training Course" is not applicable for the residents in French Polynesia)

All islands: Total Solar Eclipse in the Tuamotu Atolls

French Polynesia and especially some atolls of the Tuamotu archipelago will be the most beautiful place on earth to observe the Total Solar Eclipse on July 11th, 2010. The eclipse will last approximately more than 4 minutes.  This exceptional and rare phenomenon will be seen from many islands in Polynesia including Tahiti (more than 98% of totality), but the 100% total eclipse, will be seen in the atolls of Tatakoto, Hikueru, Anaa and Hao.
Observation sites:
-Society islands (Visibility on Tahiti 99.1%, Moorea 98.6%, Huahine 95.2%, Taha'a 94.4%, Bora Bora 93.7%)
-Tuamotu archipelago. On the atolls of Anaa, Motutuga, Haraiki, Reritou, Marutea, Nihirū, Hikueru, the eclipse will last 4 min. 20 s.. On the atolls of Tekokota, Marokau, Ravahere, Rekareka, Tauere, Hao, 'Amanu and Tatakoto, the eclipse will last about 4 min. 45 s.!
